Vice President Kamala Harris Tours LACI & Meets Evolectric Co-Founder, Jakson Alvarez
On Monday, April 18, 2023, US Vice President Kamala Harris joined Evolectric and other green energy startups at the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI). After the event, LACI commends Harris for the administration’s support of solutions that address climate change and the creation of green jobs for working Americans. “It was a historic visit for LACI,” the nonprofit shares on LinkedIn, “Thank you, Vice President Harris, for being a champion…with President Biden to pass some of the most significant pieces of legislation that invest in #Cleantech and #CleanEnergy jobs, innovation, and an inclusive green economy.”
After hearing about Evolectric’s commitment to making fleet electrification accessible, scalable, and affordable for all, Harris seeks Evolectric co-founder Jakson Alvarez out in the crowd. “There you are. We were talking about the work that you are doing to convert diesel trucks to clean energy and transitioning this diesel truck that’s on its last wheels – I got jokes,” Harris says lightheartedly, “…to being an electric vehicle.”
Beyond noting how we are extending the life of existing trucks on our roads today, a big takeaway for Harris is that jobs in this new space exist for individuals with a lifetime of experience in the combustion engine industry. “We are talking about folks who have the skills, who have been doing the work for years and generations, and their skills transfer into this new economy. It’s so exciting.”
Thank you to LACI for the opportunity for Evolectric to have this platform and stand alongside fellow innovators including ChargerHelp, Electrum, SEED, and others who are dedicated to building a more inclusive green economy for all.
